Education is the cornerstone of the Commission's mandate. Working with the Ministry of Education and school communities across all twenty-two provinces, the programme localises UNESCO's global education agenda — quality, inclusive and lifelong learning for all — in the Papua New Guinean context.
The programme's work runs from national policy advice through to classroom practice: supporting curriculum alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4, strengthening teacher capacity in remote and rural schools, and connecting Papua New Guinean students to a worldwide network of peers through UNESCO's school and youth platforms.
Particular attention is given to the learners most at risk of being left behind — girls in remote districts, children with disabilities, and out-of-school youth — through literacy, non-formal and second-chance learning pathways.
